If you are going to install a new floor, this is of course very nice. However, without finishing, the floor is not complete. There are a number of methods in which you can finish the floor, such as placing skirting boards . If you want to install a PVC floor or another floor yourself, you must of course install these skirting boards yourself. Here's how to do it!
> Read here whether you need to install the plinth first or the floor first!
Step-by-step plan for installing high skirting boards
If you are going to install a new floor, you should of course not forget about the finish of the floor. If you go for high skirting boards, there are a number of things you will need to place them as neatly as possible:
- High skirting boards
- Kit and a Caulking Syringe
- Potlood
- Tape measure
- Zaag (verstekzaag of zaagmal)
- Acrylaatkit
Have these supplies ready so you don't have to search for your tools all the time. This saves you a lot of time.
How many skirting boards do you need?
It is also important before placing the skirting boards to see exactly how much you need. By measuring all the walls in the house, you know exactly how much length of high skirting boards you need. It is always advisable to get an extra meter or two in case something goes wrong or you have not measured correctly.

Apply the kit
If you are going to install skirting boards, the first step is to apply the mounting kit to the back of the plinth with a smooth, rocking motion. If you make a straight line with the sealant, you do not divide the glue equally. This can cause the plinth to become loose at the top or bottom. The plinth can then be attached to the wall.
Place the high plinth
Attach the plinth to the wall and make sure that it is as tight as possible against the wall. It is important that you pay attention here. Each type of sealant has its own curing time. This time is often not long. That is why it is important that you read this on the packaging of the kit. Push the plinth against the wall so that it secures properly. Also keep in mind that not every wall is completely straight and there may be small cracks. However, you can seal this later.
Finishing the cracks
By using acrylic sealant or another form of sealant you can easily and quickly seal the cracks that have arisen on the wall. Just put some paint over it and your plinth is ready for use!
Sawing the baseboards
Of course you will come across a corner in your house. In this case, you may be asking yourself how best to saw off the plinth. This of course differs per corner where the plinth will be placed. It goes without saying that it is important to saw off the skirting boards before installing them. Once they are attached to the wall, it is difficult to cut the right angle. In general, there are two types of corners in your home. Depending on these angles, you need to cut your baseboards in a certain way.
Sawing in absentia
Most homes have angles of 90 degrees. For these homes it is very easy to cut a plinth. In both cases, you need two skirting boards that are sawn off at an angle of 45 degrees. You then connect these angles to create a 90-degree angle. The plinth that is fixed on one side of the wall can be cut from the inside to the outside by 45 degrees. For the other plinth, you do exactly the same.
Do you have a wall that is facing in? Then you have to cut the plinth slightly differently. In this case, you also need to saw off the two baseboards that come together at an angle of 45 degrees. In this case, however, you cut the corner from the outside to the inside (so the longest side is the outside in this case). If you sit the two skirting boards together, you will then get the right angle.
