Water and laminate, not a good combination
Laminate flooring does not keep in contact with water in any case. In that respect, this type of flooring can be compared to cats and for good reason! Laminate floors, when they come into contact with moisture, will suck up the moisture and expand. In many cases, however, there is no room for this staking. For this reason, the laminate will bulge or even crush itself. Also, the laminate can become porous from moisture in the core of the boards. Something to prevent as well as possible!
Water damage laminate, prevention is better than cure!
There are several situations where it is relatively easy to prevent possible water damage. For example, it is advisable to place a bowl under the pots of plants so that water does not unexpectedly come out of the pot when you have given the plants where. A mat under the water bowls of the pets is also not an unnecessary luxury. These are small moments when a laminate floor can come into contact with water. Another way in which moisture can get to the laminate and thus cause water damage is through the bottom of the floor. Water under laminate is disastrous for the floor. Rising moisture can occur from the soil. For this reason, it is necessary to install a good subfloor under the laminate floor. Read here which subfloor you should choose for laminate. It is best to opt for laminate that is either fully or partially resistant to water. At Solza.nl we have various types of laminate in the range that are water resistant. For example, are you going to lay a laminate floor in the kitchen? Then make sure that you at least install a partially or temporarily water-resistant laminate floor. An example of water-resistant laminate is, for example, the Floer Country House Laminate.
Still water damage? We have the solution.
Has the damage been done? Most likely when you read this blog. Don't panic. There are some solutions when you have water damage to your laminate floor. You don't have to replace the entire floor immediately. It is necessary to remove the affected laminate boards from the floor. In any case, do this very carefully.
Let it dry for a while
In some cases, when the water damage is not too bad, it is possible to dry the wet floorboards. Do this, for example, with the help of a dehumidifier or a fan. Do not do this by laying the laminate on the heater, as this will cause the boards to warp.
Replacing laminate
Often you will find out that the affected shelf needs to be replaced. At Solza.nl we always advise our customers to keep a pack of laminate at hand, because that comes in handy in such a situation. You can read exactly how you can best replace this laminate plank in the blog that previously wrote about replacing laminate plank.
